Birmingham City make it a hat-trick of new contracts as player thanks Knighthead.

Birmingham City have been busy extending players’ contracts during the international break

Ethan Laird has become the latest Birmingham City player to pen a new contract during the international break.

Blues have already tied down influential midfielder Paik Seung-ho and Keshi Anderson this week and Laird’s name can now be added to the list. The 23-year-old has signed a two-year extension to his existing deal, meaning he is contracted until 2028.

Laird was a fixture in Blues’ line-up at the beginning of the season before he suffered an ankle injury in the 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic at the end of August. Manager Chris Davies hopes Laird can return towards the end of this month.

“I’m in a buzz,” Laird exclaimed. “I am thrilled that the Board feels that I am a good fit for this club. Long may it continue. Everyone knows where this club is headed.”

After moving from Manchester United to the Blues last summer, Laird has appeared in 32 games with the team. Due to Taylor Gardner-Hickman’s form and Alfons Sampsted’s presence, the right-back will have to battle to reclaim his spot on the squad when he returns.

By offering longer contracts, Blues owners Knighthead have attempted to safeguard the team’s resources.Veteran striker Lukas Jutkiewicz is the lone player whose contract expires at the end of this season thanks to Anderson’s renewal earlier this week.

Do you think Laird will regain the right-back spot?
