During her visit on ITV’s DNA Journey with Ancestry, Sue Johnson, star of The Royle Family, was surprised to learn of her royal ties.

The 80-year-old actress, who portrayed Barbara Royle in the popular BBC sitcom, was accompanied by her onscreen husband, Ricky Tomlinson, who is 85.

Sue, born in working-class Lancashire, found she was connected to King’s horse trainer, Sir Mark Prescott, 3rd Baronet.

The long-term Labour supporter and trade unionist subsequently discovered that one of her ancestors was William Prescott, Tory MP for Tottenham (1874-1945).

The two, who previously portrayed husband and wife Sheila and Bobby Grant on Brookside, went to a conservative club before getting the news, and Ricky quipped, “If everything goes wrong, can I get another car to go home in?” You know, you’re branded with the same brush.

Ricky was sentenced to two years in prison for conspiring to intimidate and affray during the 1972 national builders’ strike.

Sue discovered that William originally ran for MP in 1918, after returning from the originally World War, and championed the working class.

The actress expressed her admiration for his qualities: ‘I couldn’t be prouder. It’s something I strive to. I admire him. I am proud and grateful.’

While Ricky stated, “I’m shocked for someone on that side of the House to express himself in support of the working class.” I only wish we had more people like him who would speak out for the working class the way he did.

The two were surprised to learn that horse trainer Sir Mark Prescott was actually the son of MP William Prescott.

During one episode, 54-year-old actor John Simm discovered that he was not his real father, despite idolizing him.

Ironically, he went on the show to defend his buddy and fellow Life On Mars co-star, Philip Glenister (61), who portrayed the violent and politically incorrect DCI Gene Hunt.

The two men met 17 years ago when they became the actors for the policing duo, and Simm stated that he only appeared in the program to ensure Glenister wasn’t alone.

Simm stated, ‘It’s turned out to be such a huge event in my life, and all I was doing was a favor for Phil so he didn’t have to do it on his own. It shattered my universe and revealed that all I thought I knew was false.

Leeds-born Simm got his start in the entertainment industry as a youngster, playing guitar in a band with his musician father Ronald.

Actor John Simm is horrified to find his loving father was NOT his real father during an emotional episode of ITV’s DNA quest.

Ronald died in 2015, and in an interview, Simm described his loss as follows: ‘When someone dies, you’re left with this massive black hole in your life.

People tell me, ‘You’ll get over it,’ but I don’t want to. I always wish to remember my father. I still have his phone number.

‘Every now and then, I see something on TV that I think he’d enjoy and pick up my phone to contact him.’

On the fifth season of DNA Journey, he recounts a chat he had with his mother before to taking the test for the show.

He remarked, “When they had me in the 1960s, they were both young.” They were together, then separated and were both with other people before reconciling and having me. And I hadn’t heard this story before.

Simm pondered leaving the show after the DNA revelation, but instead chose to seek help from the experts to learn more about his biological father.

During the episode, he learns that his biological father has died, but he also discovers that he used to live in the same neighborhood as Simm and frequented the same working men’s clubs as his father.

‘The thing that blows my mind is that my dad and I played around here a lot, and he might have been in the same bar one night and seen me play,’ he added.

‘I can’t get it out of my thoughts since we used to perform in this region in the 1980s, and he was working in men’s clubs. It’s one of those crazy, Back to the Future, Life on Mars stuff.

Father-of-two Simm also discovers that he has a half-sister, Karen, who he meets at the conclusion of the episode and shares memories with him about their biological father.
