Liam Shaw makes surprising Celtic admission after sealing Parkhead exit

The midfielder made only two appearances for the Hoops, but has no animosity.

Liam Shaw only appeared in two games during his three-year stint with Celtic. However, the overlooked midfielder swears he would never regret signing for the Hoops.

In 2021, Celtics signed two young players from Sheffield Wednesday: Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide. Despite making a breakthrough at the Owls as adolescents, the pair did not make the grade at Parkhead. Urhoghide, a powerful defender, has joined Ligue 2 club Amiens, while Shaw has left for Fleetwood Town permanently.

Shaw, 23, is eager to play regular first-team football following three loan stints in Glasgow. And, while the midfielder’s time in Scotland did not go as planned, he maintains he departs Celtic Park a better player with memories to last a lifetime.

He said: “I received a phone call from my agency informing me that Celtic were interested. The decision seemed obvious. An excellent experience. The level of training has benefited me. It was a pinch-me moment (his debut against Real Betis). When I first started playing, I was like, “I’m here now; let’s do it.” I thought I played well, and we won the game. It’s an experience I will remember for the rest of my life.

“I do not believe you can live with regrets. Going to Celtic was the perfect decision for me at the time, and it was a true privilege to be a part of it. Training with those types of guys has taught me a lot, and I’ve incorporated a lot of what they’ve taught me into my own game.

“I’m getting on a little now at 23, but just in football terms, and all I need to do now is get my head down, play games, and get my name back out there. I did play last season, but I feel great and am eager to have a full season under my belt.”
