“He’s destroyed our club” – Reaction given to new Reading FC takeover update

“He’s destroyed our club” – Reaction given to new Reading FC takeover update.

Reading have entered into a period of exclusive talks with a fresh potential buyer of the club.

The Royals released a statement on their official website earlier this week confirming that discussions are underway with a potential investor.

The League One side is up for sale, with owner Dai Yongge also in talks to sell their home stadium and training ground as part of the deal.

Previous attempts to purchase the club have collapsed, including from ex-Wycombe Wanderers owner Rob Couhig.

Supporters will be eager to see the Berkshire outfit change hands, with the EFL imposing another transfer embargo on the team this week as well.

Reading ownership claim made

Amid reports from the iPaper that a Hong Kong businessman with ties to Dai Yongge is being linked with a takeover, FLW’s Reading fan pundit Johnny Hunt asserted that any associate of Yongge’s should not be in charge of a football club in England when questioned about the most recent development regarding the club’s ownership.

While he hopes a solution will be reached quickly he feels that English team should be owned by anyone connected to Yongge.

“Hunt told Football League World that if the EFL have any sense of responsibility to football or the club, they will not allow anyone with any contacts or links with Dai Yongge to run a football club, let alone Reading.”

Someone who is one of his associates cannot be anywhere near a football pitch.

“He’s ruined our club; anyone who was around him would be afraid he would do the same.”

“I believe that nobody connected to him will purchase it.

“There’s been talk about previous bidders coming back to the table, and possible new ones.

“If these are the prior ones, why weren’t they selected first the last time around? Does it matter what the terms and conditions are, or how much is being offered? Who knows? We are all in the dark.

“We thought we were there with Rob Couhig, we thought it was a done deal.

“Perhaps the person who wins the club this time, and hopefully it will happen quickly since the background work has already been completed and the process won’t take several months.”

“But in the end, it comes down to two questions: would Dai Yongge really sell the club? He has a year to complete it, but it hasn’t been done.

“I’m still not entirely convinced.

“I don’t think it’s smart either when someone like Rob Couhig started dancing around and essentially kind of shoving it in his face.

“I believe all they have to do is close the deal in private, make the announcement, and everything will be finished.

We hope that the individuals involved have the best interests of the team, the supporters, the players, and the coach in mind, as I believe there is some ego involved on both ends.

“But get it finished as soon as possible, before we run out of money in November, at the latest.”

Reading league position

Ruben Selles has kept the squad in League One under his direction despite all of this uncertainty off the pitch.

Prior to their EFL Trophy matchup with Cheltenham Town tonight at 7 p.m., the Royals are now 16th in the standings.

Despite having played fewer games than many of their competitors, Selles’ team lost 2-1 to Rotherham United last weekend, dropping them three points short of the play-off spots.

Their next league match is scheduled for October 19 at Crawley Town.

Reading ownership situation needs quick resolution

Reading’s finances are rapidly running out, therefore they can’t continue to live in fear of losing ownership.

As they criticise the current ownership, the fans have gone above and above to demonstrate their support for the team.

If a deal cannot be reached with a buyer, then the long-term survival of the club is currently under doubt, which is concerning to the fan base.

For their benefit, hopefully, this most recent time of exclusivity moves along swiftly and offers some hope.
