Villa, on the other hand, had to make ten changes from their last Under-21 match against Newcastle United, with several of them coming from the Under-18s.
Bolton squandered many chances and were foiled by Polish goalie Oliwier Zych. However, Evatt feels this will not affect their next home game against Burton Albion following the international break.
He stated, “We have just scored how many goals in the last four league games?” I believe the club is regaining its footing, but all it has done is solidify the positions of those who are already on the league roster. Others had opportunities tonight, but they failed to take advantage of them.
“That isn’t my fault, nor is it the fault of the staff; players want to play, but as I have repeatedly stated, managers don’t pick teams; players do.” And when an opportunity arises, you must seize it, and there are far too many tonight who have not done so.
Youngsters Jack Dallimore, Sonny Sharples-Ahmed, Conor Lewis, and Dave Abimbola were left on the bench, forcing Evatt to bring on Kyle Dempsey and Victor Adeboyejo in the second half to attempt to save a point.
Evatt stated that he had hoped to deploy some of the B Team and Under-18 regulars, but was frustrated with his team’s failure to capitalize on their opportunities.
He remarked, “That was the idea, to get started quickly, as we have been doing lately. And we did have the opportunities; we simply didn’t take them. They scored with their only attack in the first half, we didn’t stop the cross, we didn’t defend the cross well enough (something we need to work on), and then we looked scared and shell-shocked. It didn’t appear that the ball would ever go in.
“And, yes, the keeper has had a brilliant game there’s no denying it but some of that is down to our poor decision-making and execution.”
Wanderers will now give their senior players a few days off before reconvening at the start of next week to prepare for a crucial run of games before the next break in November.
Evatt will also hear his destiny from an FA disciplinary committee, which will decide on his sentence for a misconduct complaint made against him during Saturday’s game.
He stated, “The players are fatigued, we have had a lot of lengthy flights, we had the Arsenal game, we have put a lot of work into the previous four league games and have improved. If we can win the next several games and maintain our current pace, we will be there or thereabouts.
“That is everyone’s focus now, to move on to the next game against Burton here and we need to be doing everything to win it.”
