The man who presently holds the trophy is among the top names in Super League supporting Hull KR’s Mikey Lewis’s Tuesday night Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel crown.

Lewis is the overwhelming favourite to win the top individual accolade in Super League, with the Rovers star on a shortlist of three alongside Salford half-back Marc Sneyd and Warrington fullback Matt Dufty.

Lewis, who is the first Hull KR player to win the title since Gavin Miller in 1986, gets the support of two of Super League’s most well-known players to finish first on the list.

This includes the current Man of Steel, Bevan French, who has backed Lewis ahead of this weekend’s enthralling Super League Grand Final between the two most entertaining half-backs in the league.

“I think Mikey, he has lit it up hasn’t he?” French said to Love Rugby League when asked who he felt would win the prize. That’s what he does, he puts bums on seats.

“I believe that in addition to being the X-factor, he has also shown a great deal of consistency. They’ve been really successful, placing second on the ladder, and other such accomplishments, so I don’t see it surpassing Mikey; in fact, I’d be shocked if it didn’t.

Lewis has also received a resounding endorsement from Elliot Minchella, his captain of Hull KR.

Perhaps less unexpectedly, Minchella supported Lewis to take home the prize as well. “Obviously, Mikey,” he uttered. I have the opportunity to see him personally, but all three of the nominees are excellent. Over the past 12 months, he has truly grown into the role and developed. I have to say that Mikey Lewis is my favorite because of his incredible kicking technique.

Minchella also acknowledged that it is not by coincidence that Lewis’ development into a capable half-back in Super League coincided with Rovers’ ascent to prominence in the league.
He remarked, “Mikey has put a lot of effort into improving his temperament.” “He knew he needed that area of his game to improve and he’s done it. He is dependable; else, he wouldn’t be eligible for this honor.

On Tuesday night, there will be a ceremony in Leeds to crown the winner.
