Caylan Vickers may have been an important asset for Reading FC this season.
The Royals’ fandom is frustrated because Vickers might have been a significant first-team contributor this season.
He flourished when he played through the middle, and he was clearly at ease in a 4-2-2-2 formation.
Ruben Selles chose to put the kid out wide when he went away from that formation, and he did not perform as well.
Vickers, on the other hand, may have been a useful player in a very compact 4-3-3, given his ability to generate issues.

Vickers would have been a significant danger as a roving figure, providing a much-needed alternative out wide once Paul Mukairu and Dom Ballard’s loans expired.
With Femi Azeez also leaving the club this summer, they don’t have a lot of wing alternatives at the moment, so having a guy like Vickers in the squad would have been great.
He performed admirably in his debut season of senior football, and given his youth, he could only have improved.

Finally, he was sold to obtain cash to pay the expenses, a choice that Dai Yongge gladly accepted.
He should have sold the club long before then, with his liquidity troubles becoming a problem during the 2022/23 season, but he has refused to leave the premises, frustrating Berkshire supporters.
Their dissatisfaction with Yongge will be exacerbated by Vickers’ performance for Brighton U21s, who defeated Palace’s age-group side 10–0.
The sale of Vickers is just one of numerous pieces of terrible news that Royals supporters have gotten in the last year or two, with the sale sorely required.
