“It is fantastic news” – Pundit speaks out on Norwich City decision involving Borja Sainz

“It is fantastic news.”  Pundit speaks out on Norwich City decision involving Borja Sainz.

The Canaries’ season got off to a somewhat poor start, and new manager Johannes Hoff Thorup had to deal with a shock to the team.

Although they were unexpectedly defeated on the first day of play by newly promoted Oxford United, they have subsequently picked up steam.

Norwich has now gone four games without a loss in the championship, and despite their poor start, they are now seventh in the standings. The only match that hasn’t ended in a win is a tense tie against Leeds United at home. The other three games have ended in victories.

Norwich hammered Hull City by four goals to zero at Carrow Road on Saturday, maybe earning their greatest performance of the year thus far.

The fact that Marcelino Nunez, Josh Sargent, Kaide Gordon, and Borja Sainz each scored one goal, making this a thrilling victory, was the nicest part about it.

A number of key players were lost for Norwich over the summer, and they were on the verge of suffering yet another blow when one of Saturday’s goal scorers, Borja Sainz, became the talk of the town back home.

Borja Sainz was receiving interest from elsewhere

El Correo, a Spanish publication, disclosed in September that Athletic Bilbao had been keeping an eye on Borja Sainz during the summer in anticipation of a possible trade. According to the article, Sainz’s team and Bilbao’s sporting director had discussed Sainz’s present contract status.

Sainz is reportedly viewed as a potential target by Bilbao, but Norwich was keen to hold onto him, and they succeeded in doing so this summer.

The Canaries would have preferred to have retained the winger for at least one more season, but it is likely that the team will make another move for him at some stage.

The Spaniard has become an incredibly important player for Norwich under Thorup this season, and has already scored an impressive seven goals in nine Championship games, which is one more than his total tally of six last campaign.

Sainz even scored a hattrick in September away to Derby County, so has certainly nailed down that starting left-wing position.

Carlton Palmer highlights the importance of keeping Sainz

It was vital to keep Sainz from leaving during the summer because he will have a significant impact on how many chances Norwich creates and goals they score this season. Carlton Palmer, a former England international and current pundit, shared his opinions on the matter exclusively with FLW.

“It was vitally crucial that Norwich held hold to Borja Sainz amid interest from Bilbao and a few other clubs in Europe. Norwich has shown that they were correct; they are currently in seventh place, one point out of the playoffs, and Sainz is having an incredible season.”

“The manager views him as an extremely essential member of his team, and he is a fan favourite. Although his contract is set to expire in the summer of 2026, this is wonderful news.

“He gets on really well with the supporters, so it’s a good bit of business.”

“Norwich are ticking along quite nicely after missing a few influential players, but it is really good business that they have managed to keep hold of him (Sainz).”

“He was formerly a Basque athlete. We’ll have to keep an eye on this since he’s enjoying a great season with Norwich, but I would expect Bilbao to perhaps return and approach him once more. Before the January transfer market opens or, if not, before the summer, Norwich will be eager to extend his contract.”
