Isabella Wheildon, two, whose body was found in Sidegate Lane, Ipswich, was subjected to ‘escalated brutality’ in lead up to death, Ipswich Crown Court hears.
A court was informed that the youngster who was discovered dead in Ipswich had endured “escalated brutality” that was “callous,
cruel, and ultimately fatal.”
Today marked the start of Chelsea Gleason-Mitchell and Scott Jeff’s trial at Ipswich Crown Court. Both 24 year olds, they have no fixed
address but were formerly residents of Biggleswade, Bedfordshire.
They are charged with killing two-year-old Isabella Wheildon, whose body was found on June 30, 2023, at East Villa, a council-run
transitional home on Sidegate Lane.
In all, eight charges were brought against them; each included one count of murder, one of causing or permitting a child’s death, one
of cruelty to a child under 16 in connection with cocaine, and one of cruelty to a child under 16 in connection with cannabis.
While admitting all other allegations, Gleason-Mitchell entered a not guilty plea for murder. For all counts, Jeff entered a not guilty
plea.
Prosecuting the couple, Sally Howes KC said the court that police were summoned to the flat just after 11 a.m. when a friend told them
her friend’s kid had passed away while she slept.
When a police officer got to a flat in the building, the bathroom was locked and the apartment was empty. He opened and noticed a
musty scent before discovering a toddler’s body in a stroller in the shower, covered with blankets, with black eyes, bruises all over her
body.

This covered the back, limbs, neck, and torso. Isabella also had a complicated pelvic fracture involving multiple bones, as well as
fractures to both wrists.
Microscopic exams found fractures across Isabella’s body dated between six and 24 hours, 48 to 96 hours, and eight to 14 days before
