Lawrence Shankland believes that he will overlook weight-related remarks and take any criticism on the chin… or chins, as he put it in a self-deprecating jest.

Heart of Midlothian’s captain believes he would not have to play football if he paid £100 for every ‘You fat’ chant from opposition supporters.

On Sunday, the Jambos lost 3-2 to Aberdeen in a dramatic Scottish Premiership match at Pittodrie. He was subjected to further nasty abuse from the stands.

Ante Palaversa scored late to extend the Dons’ 13-game winning run since Jimmy Thelin’s arrival.

And, after Shankland’s exuberant celebration in front of Aberdeen fans following Blair Spittal’s magnificent score, the home fans gave their former star his all in the last minutes of the game.

The 29-year-old, on the other hand, can shrug off audience jibes since he has been exposed to them throughout his career.

“I get that every week,” Scotland International told the Edinburgh Evening News.”I wouldn’t be playing football if I received a hundred dollars for every chorus of ‘You Fat B*****d’.

“It’s part of football. I dish it out, so you have to take it on the chin – or in this instance, chins.”
