Everton youngster called up to England Men’s Elite League squad after Jobe Bellingham injury

Everton will head into this month’s international break with far more positivity than they did in September, given they had lost their opening three games of the season.

What made matters worse was that they appeared to be on their way to their first win at home against AFC Bournemouth before collapsing in spectacular fashion.
However, after defeating Crystal Palace and drawing with Leicester City and Newcastle United, their Premier League status seemed to have improved significantly.

They will hope that this brief break from club competition will allow their injured players to return next week, fit and ready to make their impact.

Which Everton players are away on international duty?

Although the squad is still injury-plagued, a few Everton players will be headed off for international duty in the next week.

Iliman Ndiaye is arguably the most concerned, as he will join the Senegal squad, but he is oddly not a starter for his country.
Jordan Pickford is, however, and will seek to help England gain momentum as they face Greece and Finland this month.

The club’s joyful video of their goalkeeper saving their former player’s penalty from Saturday has sparked some displeasure, with Jamie Carragher outraged by Everton’s treatment of Anthony Gordon.

Orel Mangala will join Belgium, while Nathan Patterson, Jake O’Brien, Seamus Coleman, and Armando Broja will not be included since they have all struggled with form and, more importantly, fitness this season.

Elijah Campbell, who is on loan at Ross County, is an unexpected addition to England’s U20 squad, according to journalist Matt Smith.

‘Late call-up; numerous players, notably Jobe Bellingham, withdraw due to injury.’

Who is Everton gem Elijah Campbell?

After joining the club in 2017, the 16-year-old Campbell rapidly established himself in the U18s squad.

He would later captain them before making the obvious progression to their U21 squad.

This 20-year-old centre-back was loaned out this summer to further his development after spending the second half of last season with Fleetwood Town. He possesses the technical and physical assets required to thrive in today’s game.

In fact, after signing a new contract with Everton in 2022, Kevin Thelwell stated: “Elijah is a talented young player and we are delighted he has committed his future to Everton.”

‘He is a poised and agile defender who thrives in possession. We look forward to working with him to build on the encouraging development he has already achieved via our Academy.

Hopefully, with his contract set to end this summer, he can perform well enough for club and country to persuade Everton to put their trust in him.
