Coventry City man saw Swindon Town move fall through in the summer with reason outlined

Coventry City youngster Ryan Howley saw a loan move to Swindon Town fall through over the summer due to the Robins having ‘priorities’ in other areas of the pitch, as detailed in a report by CoventryLive.

Coventry City eventually sent the attacking midfielder to Scotland on a temporary basis to join Ayr United and gain some experience. He is scheduled to spend the entire season in the Scottish Championship.
Howley, 20, has made five appearances for The Honest Men in all competitions, four of which have been in the league. They are managed by Scott Brown, a former Fleetwood Town manager, and are aiming for promotion to the Scottish Premiership.

According to CoventryLive, Swindon Town wanted him in League Two but first needed to sign other players in various positions. However, nothing materialised for the Robins, allowing the player to move up the boundary instead.

Howley would have offered Swindon Town more competition and depth in their squad. It was not to be, though.

He has spent his entire career with Coventry City, rising through the academy ranks.
The prospect has been a fixture for the Sky Blues at various junior levels in recent years.
Howley signed his first professional contract in 2020 and made his senior debut a year later in a Carabao Cup match against Northampton Town.

He has now made seven additional appearances for Mark Robins’ side.

Last year, the Wales youth international was loaned out for the first time to Dundee.

Howley made 14 appearances for Dens Park before returning to the Coventry Building Society Arena.

What next?

He will be eager to maintain his regular game time at Ayr United.

Coventry City lost 2-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday last time out, and they have had a sluggish start to the season.

They return to action following the international break, facing Preston North End away.
