The Davante Adams trade situation is already becoming tedious. The Raiders heard Adams’ trade request approximately a week ago.
Since then, there have been numerous developments and rumours surrounding the matter. Adams’ preferred teams include the Jets and Saints. There are additional clubs like the Steelers, Bills, and possibly some wildcards involved.
But when will a deal happen, and at what price? These reports keep flooding in, and they’re not quite concrete.
So, what should we expect in a rumor-filled scenario like this? You could call it standard for the course. However, the most recent reports are clearly contradicting.
On the one hand, we’ve heard as recently as Monday morning that the Raiders are “willing to wait” for the proper deal, which means this could take longer than anticipated. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported this.
So, on the same day, respectable sources have told us that the Raiders are ready to wait on a deal for Adams in order to acquire what they want.
But will they receive what they asked for? That is the current topic at hand.
The Davante Adams trade saga keeps taking turns
As we’ve known for a few days, the Raiders want a second-round pick plus an additional pick for Adams. However, another report on Monday, also from Schultz, stated that the team has yet to receive anything close to that type of offer.
Based on the Stefon Diggs and Keenan Allen transactions this year, some doubt the Raiders will receive what they want. However, one could argue that Adams is the better talent.
Diggs was traded from Buffalo to Houston, along with a 2024 sixth and 2025 fifth-round draft pick. The Bills acquired a second-round pick from the Texans. In a roundabout manner, this comes down to the worth of Diggs’ third-round selection.
Allen, meanwhile, was traded from the Chargers to the Bears for just a fourth-round pick.
Whether you think Adams is a better player than either of the others appears to be irrelevant at this point. The Raiders’ asking price does not appear to be met anytime soon. As previously noted, Adams’ contract will count $44 million against the limit for the next two years, according to Spotrac.
There is still some road ahead, and to be honest, we don’t know how long it will be.
