“A good deal on our hands” – Norwich City backed to sign ex-QPR star Bright Osayi-Samuel

“A good deal on our hands” – Norwich City backed to sign ex-QPR star Bright Osayi-Samuel.

According to rumours, Bright Osayi-Samuel-Samuel, a 26-year-old winger for Fenerbahce, is a former player for Queens Park Rangers

that Norwich City is reportedly interested in signing.

The Ligue 1 team Lens is also mulling a move for the Nigerian international as well, according to an update from Turkish outlet

Fanatik.

The wide player relocated to Turkey in January 2021 and has since been repositioned as a full-back, making 145 appearances for the

team in that capacity.

But with a potential move back to England on the cards, we caught up with Football League World’s Norwich City fan pundit Zeke

Downes to get his view on the Canaries’ potential interest in the star.

Norwich City urged to make move for Bright Osayi-Samuel

During his time at Loftus Road, Osayi-Samuel was a complete magician. His enthusiasm and unpredictable play on the wings gave

Championship defenders a lot of problems while he was in England.

The wide player has had frequent appearances in European competition since coming to Turkey, where he has also helped Fenerbahce

win the Turkish Cup in 2023 and continuously challenge for the top spot in the Super Lig.

As they attempt to push for the Championship promotion slots, Johannes Hoff Thorup and his City team may find that kind of

experience rather helpful, and according to Downes, the former QPR player is an improvement over several of their existing choices.

“It is hard to say exactly how good he is, but he is at a good age, he has had experience in our league, and he is in a position that we are

probably going to need, because a couple of our wingers are over the hill,” the Canaries fan said, reacting to the rumours that linked

them to Bright Osayi-Samuel. “I don’t mind the rumour. Because of his time at QPR. He was always probably at a level above them,

and more like the top half Championship level.”

“We have [Ante] Crnac and Kaide Gordon, as well as [Emiliano] Marcondes, but he isn’t really a winger, so I can imagine that

happening, we need another person who can do that. Like [Christian] Fassnacht and [Onel] Hernandez, and that leaves us with

[Borja] Sainz as the only real nailed on starter, and then we have [Gabriel] Forsyth, who is very young and started the first game of the

season but hasn’t really played since,”

Norwich City will have to address Bright Osayi-Samuel position change

Even though Osayi-Samuel was formerly an all-action winger for the EFL, his move to Turkey has led to him being utilised more

defensively, with the Nigerian currently playing a regular role at right-back.

It remains to be seen whether the star will return to a more forward-facing role following any possible move to Carrow Road, but

Downes feels his skills would be better utilised in an attacking capacity.

Bright Osayi-Samuel

“Yes, he has been converted to a right-back, but unless we play wing-back, both [Kellen] Fisher and [Jack] Stacey are excellent

options, I doubt he would play much right-back if he joined us.

“Unless he can play left-back, where we might need him, I don’t see why he would be a third-choice right-back.”

However, I believe that we could have a great deal on our hands if he is comfortable playing on the wing. I also believe that [Ben]

Knapper and [Johannes Hoff] Thorup are capable of doing their jobs well.
