‘Really proud moment’ – Hull City new boy reacts to debut against Norwich City

Hull City new boy Charlie Hughes has posted on X that making his debut over the weekend was a ‘really proud moment’.

Hull City rushed to sign the centre-back from Wigan Athletic during the last transfer window. He had to wait till after his appendix was removed before making his debut.
Hughes, 20, replaced Sean McLoughlin at halftime in Saturday’s match against Norwich City at Carrow Road. Tim Walter’s side lost 4-0 against the Canaries and were thoroughly defeated, returning to East Yorkshire with nothing.

Despite the loss, their new recruit posted on social media: “Not the outcome we wanted…” On a personal level, I am thrilled to have made my debut for this fantastic club. I was quite proud to put on the shirt! Thank you for your support. We recover after the break.”

Hull City debut

Hughes is still getting back up to speed and will benefit from some game time against Norwich City.

Hull City recruited him this summer as a potential player, and he signed a long-term contract at the MKM Stadium.

He will be eager to secure a regular spot in their starting XI in the coming weeks and months as Walter’s team looks to move up the league.
The youngster will compete with McLoughlin for a place on the team next to Alfie Jones.

Hughes was on the books at Liverpool and Manchester City before joining Wigan Athletic.

He joined the Latics and quickly established himself as a prominent player, scoring five goals in 76 games across all competitions.

What happens now?
Hull City will look to rebound from their defeat to Norwich City during the international break.

They won three consecutive games against Stoke City, Cardiff City, and QPR before losing to Norwich.

The Tigers are still a work in progress, and they will return to action in a few weeks against high-flying Sunderland as they aim to go back to winning ways.
