Norman Reedus reacts to surprise Daryl Dixon kissing scene

“He’s never got to do this before and he doesn’t know what it means.”

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol focuses on reuniting longtime friends Daryl and Carol. But it was Norman Reedus’ Daryl’s romantic

relationship with another lady, Clémence Poésy’s Isabelle, that offered the biggest surprise of the season’s second episode, “Moulin Rouge.”

Watching Daryl lock lips with anyone is a rare occurrence, having only happened once previously, when he became romantically linked with Leah Shaw during

season 10 of the show, whom he later killed. On this week’s episode of Daryl Dixon, he reached down and began kissing Isabelle, which surprised her.

Earlier in the episode, Daryl urged Isabelle to accompany him on his return trip to America, assuring the French party-girl-turned-nun, “You’re not like them at all.”

“You are like us.” She initially stated that it was impossible, but after the Nest attempted to assassinate her and Daryl, destroying her trust, Isabelle changed her

mind, informing Daryl that she would accompany him “if the offer still stands.” After looking at her for a while, Daryl leaned in for a kiss. And then, after a brief

interval, they began kissing.

Inside Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride’s long, winding Walking Dead journey: ‘It’s a great complete circle.’

Given the rarity of such an occurrence, it appears to be a watershed moment for both the character and the franchise, but Reedus, who is usually wary of the focus on

his character’s love life, cautions the fandom not to get carried away with romantic fantasies. Rather than theatrically declaring a new Walking Dead couple like Rick

and Michonne or Glenn and Maggie, Reedus believes this make-out session should be interpreted as his character exploring the possibilities of what could be.

“I think it was an experiment,” the celebrity tells Entertainment Weekly. “The question was, ‘What is this?’ It wasn’t ‘This is it!’ The question is, “What is this?” And

how would it look and feel? I don’t believe there was an intention to reach second base. I believe it was more of a scary parting of the curtains to look at the notion.”
