Despite being relegated from the Premier League, Sheffield United was able to hang onto some of their most valuable assets, Hamer among them.
Despite the Blades’ problems in the top division, the Dutch standout demonstrated his ability to compete at that level by shining in the Championship with Coventry City. As such, there was considerable surprise when he stayed at Bramall Lane beyond the end of the summer window.
Unsurprisingly, Hamer has been essential to the Blades ever since. After nine games, he has assisted Chris Wilder’s team in keeping up their winning start to the season.
With a contract that runs through 2027, Hamer is one of the league’s best players and a star for Sheffield United.
How much is Gustavo Hamer worth?
When Hamer was being linked with a move away from Sheffield United in the summer transfer window, it was claimed that an £18m valuation had been placed on the midfielder. This was amid claims of an ambitious £13m bid from Championship rivals Leeds United.
However, according to data from FootballTransfers, Hamer’s estimated transfer value is far lower.
They estimate that Hamer’s transfer worth is €9.8m, or just £8.2m.
That total has him as their highest-valued player. Anel Ahmedhodzic is behind him with an estimated valuation of €8.5m (around £7.1m).
A major asset
Few will dispute that Hamer is the most valuable player at Sheffield United. However, there’s no doubt that a transfer to prise him away from Bramall Lane would cost a lot more than the estimated value.
Only a matter of months ago the club set a price tag of more than double that amid interest in his services.
Hamer is 27 and under contract for another three years. With four goals and an assist in nine Championship games, he is once again proving that he is a cut above at this level and has what it takes to test himself at a far higher level.
Sheffield United will be hoping he can do so under their watch but if not, there is sure to be clubs eager to offer him that opportunity.
