Aston Villa tipped to sign £18m Celtic duo in stunning January raid

Aston Villa’s January transfer targets have been suggested to be Celtic’s Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi.

Stiliyan Petrov, a former midfielder who made a total of 523 appearances for Villa and Celtic, feels the two clubs should make transfers in January.

Petrov believes that while the Villans are already successful in the Premier League and Champions League, they could benefit from additional firepower. Petrov believes Maeda and Kyogo, who have scored four and five goals in Celtic’s first seven Scottish Premiership games this season, would be ideal for Villa.

When asked who Unai Emery should be looking at at Celtic, Petrov responded, “There isn’t just one, there are plenty. Listen, Celtic are now functioning admirably, but I would want to see at least two players, Maeda or Kyogo.

“Maeda’s quickness, energy, and ability to push fullbacks and press are amazing. Probably one of the best I’ve ever seen in football. And Kyogo is a classy player, a wonderful striker with a lot of skill, is very cunning, and most importantly, he gets goals.”

Villa’s current starting lineup features Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers, and Jon Duran, making it improbable for either forward to make an appearance. Emery is likely to prioritise extra legs and goals, especially with the new UEFA Champions League structure making the fixture list busier than ever.

Maeda, 26, and Kyogo, 29, have a current transfer value of €21.5 million (£18 million) according to Transfermarkt.
