Ally McCoist in hysterics live on talkSPORT after what’s said about Leeds United ace

Ally McCoist was pushed into hysterics live on talkSPORT after making a joke about Leeds United’s Illan Meslier.

Meslier’s remarkable 97th-minute error lost Daniel Farke’s side a win against Sunderland on Friday (4 October) night, when Alan Browne’s ball rebounded off

Junior Firpo and somehow went past the goalie.

McCoist, appearing live on talkSPORT Breakfast with Jeff Stelling [7 October, 06:58], found a letter brought in by a listener at the Frenchman’s expense amusing,

but eventually agreed that fans should support him.

The message, which elicited great laughter from the Scotsman, simply stated: “You have to get behind Meslier, because he’s not stopping much.”

Will Leeds United back Illan Meslier?

Will Leeds United continue with Meslier? Probably. Should they? It is uncertain.

It is to the 24-year-old’s credit that he has remained number one at a club like Leeds for so long; many players fail under the strain and expectation of playing at

Elland Road.

However, the mistake on Friday (4 October) could be considered as one too many, especially given the nature of it – it almost appeared to defy physics, it came in the

final seconds when 2-1 up away to the Championship leaders, and promotion is an absolute must this season.

The international break will be long and painful for a Leeds side trying to turn things around, and it will be intriguing to watch whether Farke backs Meslier with a

roaring show of faith, or whether he is tempted to bring in seasoned EFL stopper Karl Darlow.

If Meslier is not dropped right now, he will not be while Farke is at the club. The best solution for people who have no control over the situation, notably his

teammates, is to openly support him while venting their frustrations privately.

Sheffield United play at Elland Road next, with another potential promotion battle in the coming months.
