McKenna must now drop 5/10 Ipswich star who lost possession 17 times.

Prior to their trip to West Ham United this weekend, Ipswich Town had not yet been completely destroyed in a Premier League match,

with heroic performances against teams like Aston Villa and Fulham standing out.

After starting the game with a dismal run of play under new manager Julen Lopetegui, the Hammers easily defeated the Tractor Boys

4-1, leaving Kerry McKenna’s team humiliated on their trip to London.

The popular Ipswich boss will have plenty to ponder concerning his troops after this collapse on the road, mainly whether or not he

should persist with Kalvin Phillips in the middle of the park, who struggled against his former loan employers.

Phillips’ performance in numbers

Given how awful he was for West Ham the previous season, it was always going to be a risky move to bring in the Manchester City flop

and expect him to instantaneously light up the globe.

The former Leeds United player mysteriously gave over the ball in the first minute, which allowed Michail Antonio to score, so Phillips must have felt generous facing some familiar acquaintances this weekend.

Furthermore, in the first half of the second half, Jarrod Bowen had a chance to run at the Tractor Boys’ defence due to some awful

back-row play, but the new Ipswich number eight was unable to close the distance to the former Hull City player, who scored a key

goal to make it 3-1.

Phillips was hauled off the pitch late on consequently after failing to show to his former side his true self, as the 28-year-old continues

to slip up when it comes to resurrecting his career.

Not many Ipswich players could hold their heads high after this humbling loss, in all fairness, with Omari Hutchinson notably poor

too in attack for McKenna’s visitors.

Hutchinson’s performance in numbers

Despite consistently performing well for the Tractor Boys in the Championship, Hutchinson isn’t quite living up to his summer
transfer fee of £20 million in the Premier League.

After witnessing his performance against the free-flowing Hammers, it was evident to everyone why the former Chelsea young player

has been so useless this season. He has only managed one assist in his seven top-flight games to date. His production of zero goals is
also concerning.

Although Hutchinson might occasionally cause problems for the West Ham defence with his darting runs, the 20-year-old
did not take any shots on Alphonse Aréola’s goal. Instead, he was a maze-like rush forward.

Throughout the game, he was also ineffective with the ball in several areas; the former Chelsea player gave up the ball 17

times when playing away at the London Stadium.Omari-Hutchinson-Ipswich

It would result in a low 5/10 match rating being dished out to Hutchinson come full-time by journalist Alex Jones, who was said he

was given ‘little space’ by the Hammers defenders to strut his stuff.

In an effort to get more out of his underwhelming number 20, McKenna may be tempted to change up his approach. The 5 foot 9

might be shifted to the flank, where he excelled during his team’s thrilling promotion campaign last year.

Additionally, Phillips might be dropped, and he certainly wouldn’t want to worry about losing his starting position going forward.

Hutchinson does have an outrageous strike like the one above up his sleeve, but as many Ipswich players now know, the top tier is a

different animal from the championship.
