Celtic star; “Hopefully I Can Get as Many Goals as I Can”

“Hopefully I Can Get as Many Goals as I Can” – Daizen Maeda Targets Best Season Yet at Celtic

Daizen Maeda has set his sights on making the 2024/25 season his most prolific yet at Celtic. After a strong start to life in Glasgow following his move from Yokohama F. Marinos, the Japanese forward is determined to take his game to the next level and become a more clinical presence in front of goal.

In a recent interview, Maeda spoke with ambition about his personal targets for the season. “Hopefully, I can get as many goals as I can,” Maeda said, expressing his hunger to contribute more consistently to Celtic’s attacking force. His pace, energy, and work rate have always been key attributes, but Maeda is now focused on adding a greater goal-scoring threat to his game.

Since arriving at Celtic Park in January 2022, Maeda has quickly endeared himself to the fans with his tireless running and high-pressing style. Often deployed on the wing or as a central striker, he has been a versatile option for Celtic’s frontline. However, Maeda’s goal tally has been an area he feels he can improve. With Kyogo Furuhashi leading the scoring charts, Maeda knows there’s room for him to step up and provide more goals from his position.

Last season, Maeda netted 11 goals across all competitions, a respectable return but one he knows he can surpass. With Celtic competing in multiple tournaments, including the Champions League, Maeda is aware that his performances can be a decisive factor in the team’s success.

“I feel like my understanding of the game here has improved a lot since I first joined,” Maeda shared. “The way we play under Brendan [Rodgers] suits me well, and I’m working hard on improving my finishing.” Rodgers’ tactical approach has allowed Maeda to exploit his speed on the counter-attack and find spaces behind opposition defenses, and the player is confident that he will find the back of the net more regularly.

The 26-year-old has also benefited from playing alongside other top talents like Kyogo and Matt O’Riley, who have helped him develop his movement in the final third. With new signings and tactical tweaks expected throughout the season, Maeda believes that his partnership with the team’s key attackers will only grow stronger.

Celtic fans will be hoping that Maeda’s determination to score more goals translates into consistent performances in the league and Europe. As the Hoops aim to defend their domestic title and make their mark on the continental stage, Maeda’s form will be vital in keeping the momentum going.

As Maeda looks ahead to the challenges of the season, his optimism and drive to succeed are clear. “I just want to keep improving and help the team in any way I can,” he added. With the Japanese international setting his sights on a personal best season, Celtic supporters will be eager to see if Maeda can turn his goal-scoring ambitions into reality and help fire the club to more silverware.
