The rise and rise of Jonathan David

Jonathan David has gone from strength to strength since joining LOSC Lille from KAA Gent in August 2020. While the Canadian international has endured a few below-par campaigns, he has been instrumental to the Ligue 1 club’s success in the last four years.

The 24-year-old has been hot off the blocks in the 2024/25 season, amassing eight goals and two assists in 13 appearances across all competitions. However, David’s spell with LOSC Lille will end next summer after his contract expires on June 30, 2025. The situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham.

A man in demand

A report by SPORT has suggested that the LOSC Lille striker is Barcelona’s priority target The Catalan giants view David as the long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski, who has entered the final phase of his glittering career. As for Arsenal, the North London club will look to land David as an alternative to Kai Havertz.

While the German international has been exceptional as a striker for Arsenal, the Gunners need alternatives through a long-winding season. So, the LOSC Lille attacker is a viable target. Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Jonathan David is perplexing, considering they signed Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna in the summer transfer window.

However, David brings something new to the table, making him an intriguing target for Manchester United. As for Tottenham, the Canadian international could replace Richarlison at the North London club amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of the Brazilian attacker.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old is also a target for Newcastle United and several Serie A clubs. So, FC Barcelona will face stiff competition for David, with Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham, and others vying for the signature of the Catalan club’s priority target.
