Wolves are at the basement of the Premier League following another crushing defeat.

Wolverhampton Wanderers suffered their sixth defeat of the season on Saturday, falling 5-3 at Brentford.

Gary O’Neil’s team twice recovered from a goal down to draw level, but some poor defense allowed Brentford to pull away before halftime. Six of the eight goals were scored in the first 45 minutes, with Brentford’s late fifth sending the Old Gold to another crushing defeat.

A wild start at the Gtech Community Stadium saw goals at both ends within the first five minutes, with Matheus Cunha canceling out Nathan Collins’ early opener. Brentford were subsequently granted a penalty after Mario Lemina was found to have fouled Collins, and Mbuemo converted from the spot.

Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen equalized, but Christian Norgaard scored the game’s fifth goal in just 28 minutes. Ethan Pinnock then made it 4-2 in first-half extra time, heading home Mikkel Damsgaard’s corner with minimal pressure from the Wolves defenders.

The second half was more calmer, with fewer goals, but Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone was called into action on few occasions, as the away side appeared defensively exposed. O’Neil’s team requested a penalty for handball on 70 minutes but were refused a chance to re-enter the game.

Brentford’s Fabio Carvalho poured salt in the wounds with his fifth goal, but Rayan Ait-Nouri’s attempt was only a consolation. BirminghamWorld has compiled Wolves player ratings from WhoScored.com.
