Why Southampton goal vs Arsenal was allowed by VAR after Raheem Sterling incident.
The most recent Arsenal news is that Southampton’s first goal at Emirates Stadium was permitted even though it appeared like
Raheem Sterling had been fouled.
Raheem Sterling, making his first Premier League start, was at the center of Southampton’s shocking first goal against Arsenal, which
came about under highly contentious circumstances.
Even though the Gunners had controlled the first half and earned eight corners, Mikel Arteta may have been feeling the effects of
making so many changes because they were unable to pose any threat to Aaron Ramsdale on his return to Emirates Stadium.
Ben White and Jurrien Timber’s injuries prevented them from starting for the match against the Saints, therefore Gabriel Jesus,
Raheem Sterling, and Jorginho all made the starting lineup. Declan Rice and Kai Havertz were selected as the starting eight, while
Mikel Merino, who made his debut against Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the week, was listed on the bench.
Thomas Partey, who started at right-back during the opening weeks of the previous season, was used as a result of all the alterations,
and Southampton’s unexpected goal fell through his side. After Cameron Archer cut inside and blasted a shot into the far corner, the
visitors surged ahead after Raheem Sterling was taken out of the game in the middle of the pitch. Many Arsenal players thought that
Sterling had been fouled about thirty seconds prior to the goal, but there was no call for it.
But Mateus Fernandes just outmuscled Sterling and dispatched Archer. Fortunately for Arsenal, Kai Havertz equalized almost away
when Bukayo Saka pounced on an error and squared for Havertz to score his fifth goal of the year.
