The Unexpected Admission of Nuri Sahin to the Celtic Champions League

Nuri Sahin, the manager of Borussia Dortmund, would have liked Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League game  to take place at Celtic Park, according to Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic appeared completely out of place right away. They were outmatched by Dortmund’s speed and strength and trailed them to every ball.

In Signal Iduna Park, the Hoops were thoroughly outclassed; head coach Aaron Rodgers even acknowledged, post-match, that his players were “spooked.”

Sahin, the Dortmund manager, who was the Celtic manager’s assistant at Liverpool, preferred that the match had occurred in Glasgow.

Teams are only allowed to play each other once in the first round of the Champions League, as opposed to twice as in the past.

When asked if he was annoyed that he wouldn’t be able to exact revenge on Dortmund at Celtic Park, Rodgers replied in the negative.

Indeed, that is the opposing viewpoint, he remarked (Celtic FC on YouTube).

“After the game, I spoke with Nuri (Sahin), and they said that was something they would have actually preferred if the game had taken place at Celtic Park. And so would I. It was not meant to be.

There’s no doubt that Celtic supporters would have enjoyed the chance to welcome Dortmund to Glasgow’s east end.

With the incredible support the Parkhead fans give their team on European nights, the game would have probably gone differently.

A few weeks earlier, the stadium was electrified during the encounter against Slovan Bratislava. Following the journey to Atalanta on matchday three, the team facing their old rivals RB Leipzig will next face the challenge at Celtic Park.
