“I can’t honestly see what he contributes” – Tom Cleverley urged to drop £8.5m Watford FC star v Boro

“I can’t honestly see what he contributes,”  Tom Cleverley urged to drop the £8.5 million Watford FC star v Boro.

Tom Cleverley’s Watford team, who are currently just outside the play-off spots, will take on Middlesbrough this coming weekend after a mixed start to the season.

Cleverley’s team recently suffered a crushing 3-0 loss to Paul Heckingbottom’s club at Preston North End after a dismal display.

They won 2-1 at Vicarage Road against Sunderland, who were undefeated at the time, and they hope to repeat that success at home against Boro.

Cleverley will need to choose carefully which team he wants to start because the Hornets know a win over their fellow promotion rivals may give them a huge boost in their quest of a play-off push.

Watford supporter commentator Justin Beattie of FLW has proposed one modification that need to remain in place for the time being.

After a lackluster performance in Preston, Imran Louza has had a rollercoaster ride with the Hornets.. His performances haven’t changed his thinking; he’s set in his ways.

Having signed for a cost of £8.5 million in 2021 from French team Nantes, Louza has already begun his fourth season at Watford.

Throughout his Hornets career, the midfielder has shown flashes of brilliance, but he has also had setbacks due to injury.

Additional critique of the Moroccan comes from Justin Beattie, the FLW Watford fan analyst, who claims the player isn’t even worthy of a starting spot for Cleverley.

“Imran Louza should not be on the team for the match against Middlesbrough, is one alteration I would make.

“To be honest, I don’t see what he brings to the table. He doesn’t seem to be enjoying his time at Watford and doesn’t seem to want to put in any effort.

“He did suffer injuries, and it’s possible that he’s prone to being hurt again, but other than a respectable goal against Blackpool a few seasons ago, I honestly can’t recall anything he did while he was at Vicarage Road. Nothing has happened since then.

“I believe the only thing I would change would be to keep Louza as far away from the team as feasible.

Injuries have affected Louza, but his performances aren’t up to scratch

Over the course of his four seasons with the team after moving to Hertfordshire, Louza has made a mere fifty appearances.

The Moroccan may have left the Hornets this summer based on his loan move to Lorient last season, but he has stayed at Vicarage Road and is gradually recovering from his most recent back issue.

In addition, the midfielder’s recent performances while wearing Watford colours haven’t exactly shone out, and based on Justin’s perspective, discontent is mounting over the midfielder’s position in the team.

Throughout his time at Watford, Louza has shown promise. He posed a serious danger in the number ten position during the 2022–23 Championship season by creating plays and scoring goals himself.

Louza’s 2022/23 Championship statistics as per FotMob
Appearances 21
Goals 5
Assists 4
Chances created 38
Pass accuracy % 83.9%

However, since then, his performances have declined as a result of worsening injuries.

Based on his performance in Preston, it seems likely that Cleverley will bench Louza as the Hornets try to get back to winning ways.
