Huge £25 million double injury boost given to Aston Villa ahead of Spurs and Crystal Palace matches
Aston Villa were handed a huge double injury boost on Saturday afternoon as both Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara saw minutes for the Villains under-21 side, hinting at a first team return soon for the duo.
England international Mings, who joined Villa for £25 million from AFC Bournemouth, suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the opening match of the 2023/24 season against Newcastle United on August 12 last year. He has been out of action since.
As well as missing Villa’s remarkable league campaign last term, the 31-year-old former captain was unable to fight for a place with the Three Lions at Euro 2024.
Meanwhile, Kamara has also been recovering from an ACL injury picked up in a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in February. Both players came off at half-time in the under-21 meeting with Newcastle United, but those were pre-planned substitutions and not any setback in recovery.
Mings and Kamara return to action
Aston Villa shared images of Mings and Kamara on social media and wrote: “An important 45 minutes in the tank for @TyroneMings & @boubaKamara_4.”
The score was 1-1 when Mings and Kamara were substituted but the Villains’ youth team went on to lose 3-2 against the Magpies. However, that result won’t matter too much to supporters with such positive injury updates coming from the fixture.
Aston Villa face Fulham, Crystal Palace and Spurs in coming weeks
The double Aston Villa injury boost comes ahead of a flurry of clashes with London sides after the upcoming international break. Unai Emery’s side travel to Craven Cottage on Oct 19 to take on high-flying Fulham.
