“It’s time” – Carlos Corberan to recall West Brom favourite for Millwall encounter

West Bromwich Albion will try to regain momentum following two poor results and performances.

After a promising start, Carlos Corberan’s team remains at the top of the early Championship table.

However, setbacks to Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough have sparked concerns in the West Midlands about Albion’s ability to sustain a promotion bid for the remaining 38 games.

The Spaniard has made a few changes in the last two games, including replacing Tom Fellows with Jed Wallace in the starting lineup on Tuesday night, despite the England U21 international’s impressive individual performance.

Corberan, along with the winger from Longbridge’s restoration, is expected to switch out wide for the forthcoming match against Millwall at The Hawthorns.

West Brom to start Mikey Johnston in upcoming Millwall encounter

According to Football League World’s West Brom fan analyst, Callum Burgess, Mikey Johnston should make his season debut for the Baggies instead of Karl Grant.

“I think it’s time that Albion started to re-introduce Mikey Johnston to the starting XI,” Burgess told BBC Sport.

“Although he’s been rusty in his cameo appearances thus far, we’ve only had 20 or 30 minutes (per game) to assess him. As a result, fans may easily form ideas that he is not the player he was last season.

“We’ll only know whether that’s the case when he resumes playing for an hour to 70 minutes on a daily basis to get back into the groove.

“Although Karlan Grant has had a wonderful start to the season, particularly with his work off the ball and 110% effort every week, we witnessed the spark that Mikey Johnston can offer when he’s on it.

“When he’s starting games for us, if he’s getting back into his mojo, then Albion can have a really decent Championship player.”

West Brom fan pundit highlights Grady Diangana blow for Carlos Corberan

Grady Diangana scores for West Brom against Leeds United

Corberan stated following the 1-0 loss to Michael Carrick’s side that Grady Diangana had a shoulder issue after missing the midweek duel, and the DR Congo international is a doubt for Saturday’s fixture.

Burgess hopes to reintroduce the 26-year-old against Neil Harris’ team, but this appears doubtful.

“I would’ve liked to have seen Grady Diangana back in the starting XI over John Swift, as I feel his performances have been dropping off a bit lately,” Callum claimed.

“However, Diangana appears to have sustained another shoulder injury, which is a further setback for many Albion fans who were looking forward to seeing what he could bring to the team.

“For example, he created our opener against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, using movement that only he can deliver in this team to set up Fellows, who crossed for Josh Maja. It will be difficult while he is gone.

“So, the main change for this weekend is that I’d want to see Mikey Johnston start again. And, of course, Tom Fellows returns to the right wing after being rested in midweek.”

West Bromwich Albion have an abundance of quality in wide areas

Carlos Corberan in charge of West Brom

Corberan’s ability to rotate a number of high-profile wingers demonstrates his squad’s depth.

Of course, losing Diangana would be a huge loss for Corberan, but as our fan commentator stated, reintroducing Johnston would give Albion a whole different dynamic against a team that has conceded six goals on the road thus far.

Grant has been performing well after returning from a loan spell with Cardiff City. However, West Brom have yet to dominate opponents at home this season. The £3 million summer signing could be crucial if they want to win by more than one goal in B71 for the first time this season.

Johnston scored seven goals and added two assists during his loan spell last season, with the majority of those contributions coming in a purple patch between February and March, showcasing his potential as one of the division’s deadliest wingers when on form.
