I hope Birmingham City boss Chris Davies doesn’t get the Pep Guardiola treatment

Chris Davies has made a flying start to his career as Birmingham City manager

Don Goodman has praised Chris Davies’ ‘excellent job’ and advised fans not to treat Birmingham City’s manager like Pep Guardiola.

Blues have risen to the top of League One following seven consecutive wins and an undefeated start. While Davies has received praise from some within the Blues’ fanbase, outsiders will point to the money invested during the summer transfer window.
Knighthead owners funded the acquisitions of 17 new players, including club record signing Jay Stansfield, to provide Davies with the resources he needed to win promotion on his first attempt. Goodman, who has covered several of Blues games as a Sky Sports pundit, believes Davies’ effort is impressive regardless of the club’s budget.

“The way Birmingham City play all comes from Chris Davies,” ex-Wolves, West Bromwich Albion, and Walsall striker Goodman told Grosvenor Sport. “I’ve seen clips of him in training, and they’re playing exactly like he wants them to.

“Chris Davies is doing an excellent job, and even though Birmingham has spent a lot of money, I hope he receives the credit he deserves.” Despite having a decent group to work with, he still needed to establish a play style and assert his authority.

“I frequently believe Pep Guardiola doesn’t receive the credit he deserves because people focus on the money invested rather than how he improves players and implements methods. I hope that does not happen to Chris Davies.”

Goodman added: “I have no doubts that Birmingham City, like Ipswich, are a Championship team in the making, but I don’t think they’ll win consecutive promotions. For me, it would be disappointing if Birmingham City did not reach 100 points and shatter several League One records.
