Former Sheffield Wednesday wonderkid given fresh start in League Two after Celtic struggle.

After leaving Celtic, Liam Shaw, a former midfielder for Sheffield Wednesday, joined Fleetwood Town in League Two.

Shaw, a product of the Owls development system, made his first-team breakthrough at Hillsborough during the 2020/21 season.

He established himself as a mainstay in the senior team as Wednesday got entangled in a private relegation struggle in the Championship.

Although Shaw spent three years at the club and saw just two professional appearances for the Bhoys, Celtic came knocking.

He was loaned out to Motherwell, Morecambe and Wigan Athletic, but now has a permanent home.

“[I] just want to play as many games as I can and just get my fitness going, get my confidence going, just getting back to playing really and enjoying it,” Shaw stated in an interview with Fleetwood TV.

“As a player, I promise to give every game my all, do my absolute best, and hopefully help the team win as many games as we can and climb the standings as high as we can.”

The 23-year-old is eligible to make his debut this weekend against Bromley as part of a contract that extends until the end of the current campaign.
