EFL pundit names ‘brilliant’ gem as Sunderland player of the season so far, it’s not Chris Rigg.

The Sunderland midfielder, Josh Bellingham, was crucial to the Black Cats’ victory over Derby County, and it was entirely expected of him given his strong play in Le Bris’ lineup.

He had an amazing touchdown against the Rams from 25 yards out, and it made clear how important he has been to the campaign thus far.

Ryan Dilks, an EFL pundit, stated on the Second Tier Podcast on X that “they [Sunderland] went ahead [vs Derby County] through a screamer by Jobe Bellingham, an absolute crackerit was.”

“Over the course of Sunderland’s great start, we’ve singled out several of their players, but I think bellingham has been their best player so far this season.

However, one other prominent player in the Black Cats’ side has also proven to be incredible at this point, and he has even been tipped above Rigg as Sunderland’s ‘best player’.

Jobe Bellingham performances will be integral for Sunderland’s success

Despite just bagging his first goal of the 2024/25 Championship campaign against Derby County, he has been crucial both on an offensive and defensive front for Sunderland.

The French manager has shown remarkable faith in the 19-year-old player by allowing him to participate in every minute of Championship action thus far, which is an amazing accomplishment.

According to Sofascore, Bellingham has averaged 27.5 accurate passes per game and 49.9 touches per ninety minutes.

Given that Le Bris has struggled with midfield injuries thus far, the Black Cats player is obviously essential to Sunderland and possesses incredible versatility in the center of the field.
