Daniel Farke fires warning to Sunderland ahead of Leeds United clash

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has warned future opponents Sunderland that his team is in good shape ahead of tonight’s match.

Speaking to the Whites’ media team, he praised the Black Cats for their strong start to the 2024/25 season under Regis Le Bris.

The Wearside club wasn’t exactly going in the right direction for much of last season, but Le Bris has done a good job thus far, leading his squad to a win over Derby County in midweek.

They can be very proud of their efforts right now, as they are at the top of the Championship table, but they won’t have an easy task this evening, despite having the home advantage.

Despite early season hiccups, Leeds United are still in promotion contention, currently in fifth position under Daniel Farke.

Championship table (Sunderland and Leeds United compared
(As of October 4th, 2024) P GD Pts
1 Sunderland 8 10 18
5 Leeds United 8 8 15

Ready to challenge for an automatic promotion place after suffering play-off final heartbreak in May, the Whites will be eager to secure a return to the Premier League at the second time of asking.

They may have lost several key players during the summer transfer window, but they have also brought in some very talented additions, including Ao Tanaka and Largie Ramazani.

Leeds will be heading to the Stadium of Light hoping to secure all three points – but they know it won’t be an easy task.

Daniel Farke’s warning to Sunderland ahead of Leeds United game

Farke spoke to the media before of tonight’s mouth-watering match.

He had some nice words for his opponents, but he also cautioned that his squad is in a fantastic place right now.

He said to the Whites’ media crew, “They’ve done pretty well so far.”

“In these early phases, you have to win as many points as possible, and they’ve won a lot of them, as well as every home game.

“We know they’re in great shape, have good players, are strong on the counterattack, and are strong in all offensive areas.

“They have goal-scoring players, which makes them a very dangerous team, and I have a lot of respect for their work. But we also know we’re in good shape, and we want to be ready to play again on Friday.

“I expect again a tight game against a really good opponent, and we have to be at our best to give ourselves a chance.”
