Verrell George, a Reading adolescent, stood out on his debut for Noel Hunt’s Under-21s, scoring a hat trick and rescuing a 3-3 draw against Everton after falling behind by two goals.

Last year, the 17-year-old was a fixture in Mikele Leigertwood’s Under-18s side, appearing in 15 Under-18s Premier League games.

He continued to play for the Under-18s at the start of the season, making two appearances, but Hunt called him up for the trip to Merseyside, and it was a memorable debut.

The Toffees were 3-0 up after an hour and on their way to a well-deserved victory, but they failed to account for George’s 23-minute cameo.

George scored twice in two minutes to cut the lead to one with 15 minutes remaining, then saved his hat trick for stoppage time to cap off a spectacular comeback and declare his purpose in the senior age bracket.

He was lined up alongside Louie Holzman, Jay Senga, and Emmanuel Osho, all of whom had already made their first-team debut.

Andre Garcia, 16, started Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Burton Albion, demonstrating to Ruben Selles that if you are talented enough, you are old enough.
