Jack Cork back at Burnley in Academy coaching role

Burnley has officially announced that Jack Cork is back at the team, joining the Academy as a player-coach.

After his playing career ended at the end of the last campaign, Cork will now work with Under-21s manager Andy Farrell.

A few years ago, the 35-year-old started his coaching career by obtaining his UEFA B license with Ashley Barnes.

“I’m thrilled to be back,” he said on the club website. Thus far, I have found working with Andy Farrell and the U21s to be a positive experience.

“As a player, I would not have typically taken meetings or done a lot of other things.

This is the next phase of my professional and personal development as I look to see what new skills and areas I might not be strong in!

“I believe every football player begins to consider it as soon as they reach the age of thirty. It’s not something you want to think about since you’re having so much fun playing football.

But it was a lot of joy for me, especially when I got my B licence with Barnsey. After that, I began working toward my A license, and it has continued to expand.”

More than 200 appearances were made by Cork for the Clarets since his loan arrival from Chelsea in 2010. In the summer of 2017, the midfielder made a permanent return and was a member of Sean Dyche’s team that made it to Europe.

“It’s nice to be back in the environment and be involved in football again; I missed it when I was away for about a month,” he continued.

Since I’m new to this, I occasionally participate in some of the sessions, which is beneficial because it allows me to see the earlier photo while I’m playing.

I believe that people will listen to me more intently while I am rushing around and can see it right in front of me. It is ideal for me at this point in my career.

“I am unsure of my level of fitness, but if there are a lot of games in December or if something occurs on the field that Faz or I feel could aid in someone’s development, maybe for 15 minutes or so I could come on and play specific game segments to help that player see how someone with my background could handle that role.”
