Sam Burgess snubbed by rival Super League coaches after missing award shortlist
Burgess has not made the shortlist for coach of the year.
After missing the Super League coach of the year shortlist, Sam Burgess has been shunned by his peers. The coach of Warrington Wolves, who has had an outstanding debut season, did not make the four-person shortlist for the prize; instead, the England great received more votes than the coach of the team at the bottom of the competition.
Burgess led Warrington to the Challenge Cup Final earlier in the season, and the Wire, making their best return in three years, are now in the play-off semi-finals after finishing in third place.
Super League Young Player nominations are official, and the shortlist includes three forwards.
Nevertheless, Burgess has not garnered enough votes to be considered; Mike Eccles, the coach of the London Broncos, Matt Peet of the Wigan Warriors, Willier Peters of Hull KR, and Paul Rowley, the head coach of the Salford Red Devils, have all been selected on the shortlist ahead of Burgess.
Peters has led Rovers to their best-ever Super League result, while Peet has already won three trophies this season. Despite all the odds, Rowley’s Salford managed to finish fourth.

After receiving an unexpected promotion, London was predicted to finish last in the Super League; nevertheless, their poor performance was only attributable to a lower point differential than Hull FC.
