Harambee Stars midfielder on the radar of Premier League outfit Brentford

Harambee Stars midfielder on the radar of Premier League outfit Brentford.

With Brentford showing increasing interest, Harambee Stars midfielder Timothy “Babu” Ouma may be about to make history as the

second Kenyan to play in the elite English Premier League.

Ouma has been a hot item in European football since he moved from Nairobi City Stars to the Swedish club IF Elfsborg in August

2022. He has prospered since then and has drawn significant attention in recent transfer windows.

The Sun reports that the outstanding midfield player is being pursued by both Championship team Luton Town and Brentford, led by

Thomas Frank, who shows a great deal of interest in him. Renowned reporter Alan Nixon attested to this development, saying:

Scouts from both teams kept an eye on Ouma during Elfsborg’s stunning 3-2 loss to AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League. His dynamic

midfield play is said to have impressed the scouts, which has increased rumors concerning his future.

In the recently ended transfer window, Elfsborg reportedly rejected a substantial offer for Ouma around SEK 60 million (about Ksh

679 million).

There were circulating reports that he might join one of the English clubs when he was rejected. Despite Ouma’s undeniable rise to

prominence at Elfsborg, the Swedish club’s decision to reject the proposal shows that they intend to hang onto their valued asset for

the time being.

Should Ouma secure the move to Brentford, he would follow in the footsteps of fellow Kenyan Victor Wanyama, who previously played

for both Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton in the English Premier League. Wanyama enjoyed a seven-year stint in England, and

Ouma could soon become Kenya’s next top football export to the EPL.

Ouma’s transfer saga has been fraught with tension. The midfielder allegedly downed his tools in protest after Elfsborg resisted offers

for him, causing him to miss Harambee Stars’ international fixture against Zimbabwe in September.

The frustration from Ouma’s camp stemmed from the club’s refusal to accept a lucrative offer, a situation that has left him seeking

new opportunities.

Despite these challenges, Ouma has persisted in his professionalism, and others around him are continually in awe of his

on-field exploits. Having begun his Elfsborg career in the junior division, he has progressed to the main squad and made a great start

to the season, scoring one goal in his first eighteen games.

Elfsborg still has a lot of influence over Timothy Ouma’s future because his current contract with them expires in the summer of 2026.

Elfsborg might be persuaded to change their mind in the next transfer windows, though, given that Brentford and Luton Town have

both expressed interest and that bids may be forthcoming.

Another factor that may assist Ouma is the arrival of goalkeeper Hákon Rafn Valdimarsson, who transferred from Elfsborg to

Brentford in January. Valdimarsson’s positive Premier League experience may help Ouma in an indirect manner, as it may facilitate a

seamless transfer for him to the top league in England.

Timothy Ouma would become just the second player in Kenyan football history to appear in the English Premier League if his dream

move to Brentford or Luton Town comes true. The 20-year-old’s future is definitely bright, and he may soon be able to write a new

chapter in his already dazzling career due to his commitment to playing at the highest level.
