Dujon Sterling exit plan emerges at Rangers after new Ibrox contract developments.
According to Stevie Clifford, Rangers would “definitely” try to move Dujon Sterling following new contract developments at Ibrox.
The Light Blues announced on Tuesday (1 October) that they have reached a deal with the versatile Englishman to prolong his stay in Glasgow following an excellent start at Ibrox.
Although Four Lads host Clifford applauded the Gers’ clever contract strategy, he believes Philippe Clement’s team will be planning to sell the defender for a profit in the future.
On the Rangers Review YouTube channel (October 2), he stated: “Rangers have acted quite smartly.”
“He’s clearly someone they’re going to try to sell; he’s English, so he has that homegrown appeal for teams down south looking for a utility and squad guy who can kick on.
“In terms of an asset, he’s definitely that.”
What’s happened to Dujon Sterling at Rangers and Ibrox?
Sterling has established himself as a valuable component of Clement’s first-team squad since his arrival in Glasgow last summer, despite not yet settling into a certain position.
While the Englishman has failed to feature frequently this season due to a combination of bad form and injuries, he has been called upon in key games to slot into midfield and bring some bite to the team.
The Light Blues will not want to lose him in future transfer windows, but they understand that this is the type of transaction that may be required if their player trading strategy is to be successful.
As Clifford points out, Sterling is an asset, and locking him down to a new contract preserves that asset. With a new deal at Ibrox, his value will only increase, ensuring that the Gers get more money if and when they decide to part ways with the defender.
It’s encouraging to see the Light Blues getting their house in order after losing so many key players in recent seasons.
