Wrexham and Birmingham were involved in a fiesty League One clash a fortnight ago, with the FA now handing out punishments to both sides after a melee erupted late into the game
The FA fined both Wrexham and Birmingham City for a confrontation between their players during a recent League One match.
David Beckham, Gary Neville, and Tom Brady were among those who attended the game two weeks ago at St Andrew’s. The hosts would eventually defeat the Welsh team, controlled by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
Jack Marriott gave the visitors an early lead, but Jay Stansfield scored twice to flip the game on its head. Birmingham’s celebrations were hampered by a scuffle 10 minutes from time, when Alex Cochrane and Wrexham striker Paul Mullin collided.
All 20 outfield players rushed in to help, and Mullin, Wrexham captain James McClean, and Birmingham captain Krystian Bielik were among those charged following the incident. Bielik was later sent off after earning his second yellow card.
The FA quickly charged both clubs with the incident and has now issued a punishment to the two rivals. In a statement, the governing body said: “Birmingham City and Wrexham have been fined following their EFL League One match on Monday, September 16.
“Both clubs admitted that they failed to ensure that their players did not engage in inappropriate and provocative behavior during the 80th minute. Birmingham City received the standard penalty of £2,500, while Wrexham was fined £3,750 by an independent Regulatory Commission.
Mullin later denied that he bit Cochrane on the leg, and the FA took no action against the Wrexham player. Birmingham manager Chris Davies, meanwhile, blamed both sets of players for the brawl.
“I had my back to the melee because there was so much nonsense going on. I didn’t even know that he’d picked up the first yellow, and then I saw the incident on the touchline when they were breaking away, and you probably get a booking for that,” he

Wrexham owner Reynolds was gracious in defeat, sending a message to Birmingham’s minority stakeholder Brady. He wrote, “Tough defeat to a strong club. Congratulations to @bcfc and @tombrady on the win. There is still a lot more season to go. Up the Town. “Now and forever.”
Meanwhile, Dragons manager Phil Parkinson criticized Birmingham’s summer expenditure as he defended his team’s efforts. Parkinson stated, “For us as a group, it’s a good learning curve.” Any defeat is difficult to accept, but we must be realistic about where we have come from.
