Leeds United confirmed the sale of eight different players during the summer window, including Archie Grey, Crysencio Summerville, and Georginio Rutter.
The Whites needed to sell players to balance the books, and while they didn’t expect to lose Rutter, Grey, Summerville, or even Glen Kamara, the club made almost £100 million in player sales.
Leeds let five players to go on loan, including Jack Harrison, Sonny Perkins, and Rasmus Kristensen. Additionally, many stars left Elland Road on free transfers at the end of their contracts.
However, one player has proven intriguing.Kristoffer Klaesson joined Leeds in the summer of 2021, but only made three appearances, two of which were under Daniel Farke.
Under Jesse Marsch, he made his Premier League debut as a substitute for Illan Meslier in a 3-2 win over Wolves. He did, however, play twice more in 2023-24 while Meslier was suspended.
Kristoffer Klaesson joins new club after Leeds exit in summer
Klaesson left Birmingham in the Championship and Peterborough in the FA Cup to join Polish first-tier team Rakow. However, his contract was immediately terminated.
Klaesson was observed visiting McDonald’s soon after joining. Rakow thought it was insulting that Klaesson had reported for pre-season overweight and chose to terminate the newbie’s contract.
Klaesson has been without a club since then, but that changed last week when the custodian announced on Instagram that he had signed a contract with top-tier Danish team AGF Aarhus until June 2025.
What Jesse Marsch and Daniel Farke said about Kris Klaesson
Klaesson was the third-choice custodian last season, with Meslier the clear first choice and new Wales international Karl Darlow serving as a backup to Elland Road vice-captain Meslier.
Marsch expressed confidence in Klaesson after his debut for Wolves on Leeds’ YouTube channel. Rakow will disagree: “I told Kristoffer he trained hard and would do anything to be the best he could be; now it’s time to reward that. He came up big, and now I know if we need him, he’s ready to go.”
Farke praised Klaesson ahead of the FA Cup match against Peterborough, stating that he had gained confidence through daily training. He’s a wonderful guy who works hard on the practice pitch. I am confident he will perform well in the FA Cup. He clearly has our support and trust.”
He joins Aarhus, who are now third in Denmark’s first division after ten games, and might make his debut for the club on Sunday when they face Viborg away. He’s unlikely to start right away.
