Huddersfield Town in League One has had a difficult few weeks following a strong start to the 2024–25 campaign, particularly in front of goal.

But the West Yorkshire team had a great summer window after appointing Duff as manager earlier in the summer, and they will want to return to the Championship right away under Duff after bringing in plenty of EFL experience to aid in their promotion hopes during the season.

After being demoted from the second division the previous season, Huddersfield is back in the third tier for the first time since 2012. With Duff as their coach, many punters predicted that the team would be a strong candidate for promotion this year.

This season, his team has already dropped five of their previous six games across all competitions, with goals being a particular problem on offense. This is because, according to all figures per FootMob, the Terriers have missed the most huge opportunities (16) of any team in the division thus far. They have also created the most xG in the league (14.1) despite scoring 12 goals and doing poorly on that front.

Huddersfield’s encouraging start has ended as other teams have shown to be more proficient, dropping them to 10th place in League One. Their next game is a trip to league leaders Birmingham City.

Huddersfield Town’s problem area to address this January

Huddersfield Town supporter Graham Rayner of FLW is fervently hoping that the team can improve their offensive production with a skillful finisher for League One football.

He has pleaded with his team to maybe look again at a player who was linked in the summer, as they have lost out on important objectives to other teams, notably the team they play this evening.

He declared: “I think we need to go out and get a striker in the January transfer window.” We must.

“In the summer window, we lost out on two: Alfie May and Joe Taylor.

“There’s a chance that we may pursue Joe Taylor again. That would make me very delighted.

“We must resolve our issues with goalscoring. Though there are numerous problems we are currently facing, that one stands out the most.

Therefore, I believe we will make a move in January and need to find a striker.

“Otherwise, we can say goodbye to any hopes of getting out of this division anytime soon by going up.”

Huddersfield Town’s squad strength and depth in League One

With five senior center-forwards, the first team seems to be in good form for League One, giving them some serious offensive potency on paper.

But Callum Marshall is only 19 and inexperienced, Danny Ward is already 33, and neither Bojan Radulovic nor Rhys Healey have ever put together a consistent scoring streak in their lives. Thus, their primary aim sources are likely to be Josh Koroma and Freddie Ladapo.

The latter has operated as a striker this season, but is nominally a winger or attacking midfielder. As mentioned previously, Huddersfield were linked with moves for two strikers, with Luton Town frontman Joe Taylor a possible option alongside Southampton centre-forward Dom Ballard, following a summer report which linked both players to the John Smith’s Stadium.

Another central striker of real quality is paramount, especially after the club missed out on Alfie May to Birmingham City at the last minute, thus seeing a promotional rival adding a high-quality player at League One level. They will hope to add someone who is preferably capable of plenty of goals, whilst also giving the team a focal point to build around.
