Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal both won their respective games this week in the Premier League.

Spurs defender Micky van de Ven produced a top-class performance against Manchester United as the northern club won 3-0 at Old Trafford.

Troy Deeney was heavily impressed by the Dutch defender, so he selected him for BBC Sport’s team of the week.

Jamie O’Hara has suggested on talkSPORT that Van de Ven is currently the best centre-back in the Premier League, and he can get into any team in the world, including Real Madrid.

However, Jason Cundy doesn’t agree with this view, and while he rates the Spurs centre-back, he thinks Arsenal lynchpin William Saliba is the best in the country.

“He’s unbelievable (Van de Ven). I’ll go as far as to say that probably the best centre-back in the world right now,” said O’Hara.

“He is better than Saliba. He has got way more than Saliba. Do me a favour. Van de Ven is better than Saliba right now. Van de Ven is the best centre-half in the world right now.”

Van de Ven is arguably one of the best defenders in the Premier League, but it is hard to say whether he is the best in the country, let alone best in the world.

Saliba is vital for Arsenal and he has played a major role in the past two seasons to help the club challenge for the Premier League title.

The Dutch defender is known for his tremendous pace and his ability to cover grounds quickly. Saliba, on the other hand, is an old-school type defender who brings leadership and stability at the back.

For Spurs, Van de Ven is invaluable to the side, and the same can be said about Saliba for Arsenal. In terms of trophies, they have not yet won major trophies for their clubs, so it is hard to say that one is ahead of the other.

Spurs, however, need to keep their star defender fit for the rest of the season. If he stays fit for the rest of the season, Spurs can dream big of winning a trophy.
