BBC NEWS; “If Thorup likes him” – Norwich City backed to revisit target amid squad shortage.
This post is part of Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, which features unique perspectives from our FLW Fan Pundits on the most recent breaking news, teams, players, managers, possible signings, and more…
Norwich City has begun to find some stability under Johannes Hoff Thorup, and he is already looking to add to his strong group.
In the summer, the Canaries expressed interest in Emiliano Marcondes after his contract with AFC Bournemouth expired, but no agreement was reached.
Nonetheless, with the Championship season well underway, the Canaries and the 29-year-old have rekindled their relationship, with Thorup coaching him at Nordsjaelland in 2023.
The current Norwich manager spoke to Danish media outlet Tipsbladet on the midfielder. “Well, I’m talking to E (Emiliano Marcondes), and I’ve spoken with him quite a bit.
“What’s important to him is that he gets to advance in his job. He has to find somewhere he can stay for the next two or three years.
“As a club, we needed to figure out how he fit into that strategy and into our goals.
“Immediately it wasn’t exactly something we were missing, but you never know in this world of football, and E and I talk as often as we can, because he is a great person and a good footballer who has done a lot for that club I come from.”
Norwich has been granted the green light to proceed with the transaction
After missing out on the Dane in the summer, it’s not surprising to see Thorup express interest again, especially as he knows the player well.
Marcondes has 98 Championship appearances for Brentford and Bournemouth, achieving promotion to the Premier League with both teams.
Football League World’s Norwich Fan Pundit, Zeke Downes, believes his friendship with the current Canaries manager makes him an attractive target.
“I believe we absolutely need extra midfield reinforcements, particularly in the attacking areas. We don’t have a genuine number 10, I don’t suppose, now that Gabriel Sara has departed. So, I’m not opposed to Marcondes signing.
He said, “I haven’t seen much of him since leaving Bournemouth, but if Thorup likes him, I think it’s a good sign because he’s only going to look at the players that suit the system and that seems to be working well already.”
“So, I would trust that whoever he’s looking at would suit how he wants to play and will be a signing that’s worth looking at.”

Norwich lacks a little bit in midfield.
Despite Borja Sainz’s impressive performances, Norwich’s midfield lacks depth, particularly if the Spanish star is injured for an extended period.
His disputed hat-trick against Derby County demonstrated his ability to evade players and move the ball quickly.
Amankwah Forson can play in the offensive role but prefers to sit deeper, while Marcondes can come in and provide Thorup with a second option.
If Norwich sign the Dane, he might give crucial goals and assists to propel them into the play-offs and boost their confidence.
Josh Sargent requires the outlet behind him to allow him to take shots on goal and focus only on the offensive front without having to drop back into midfield at any time.
