Liverpool have come in for criticism this season and Jamie Carragher believes there’s some truth to it
Jamie Carragher has conceded that the mood at Anfield “hasn’t been great” this season. Liverpool has faced criticism for the atmosphere at their stadium, which came under fire during a defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Arne Slot’s team fell 1-0 thanks to a second-half strike from Callum Hudson-Odoi, and there was much disagreement among fans about the lackluster support at Anfield during the match.
And, once the emotions of Jurgen Klopp’s final season subsided, Carragher admitted that it was a minor concern for the Reds going ahead as they adjusted to a new style of play under their Dutch manager. Nonetheless, Liverpool have won seven of Slot’s eight games in charge.
Following a Forest supporter’s labeling of the Anfield atmosphere as a “myth” on the current Fan Debate, Carragher confessed Liverpool’s 61,000-strong support might be missing at times.
The Liverpool great stated, “You know what, the atmosphere has been a big topic this season. You think you’ve got a new manager; is it the case that ‘Klopp’s gone, maybe the football’s slightly different’, because we’re all thinking that the atmosphere at Anfield hasn’t been terrific this season.
“To be really honest, the Anfield atmosphere has always been created around European games. I believe that at routine Saturday 3 p.m. games, most supporters sit there waiting for anything to lift them rather than lifting the team, but I agree.”
Liverpool will face Bologna in the Champions League on Wednesday evening before hosting Chelsea in their next Premier League home fixture on Sunday, October 20 following the international break.
