Corberan axes Grant in 3 changes: Predicted West Brom lineup vs Boro.
West Bromwich Albion will be relieved that their midweek matchup with Middlesbrough is taking place tonight, as they regard it as the ideal chance to recover from their humiliating Championship loss on the road against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
That was the first time this season that Carlos Corberan’s Baggies had experienced the sting of a second-tier loss, as Danny Rohl’s team consistently found ways to breach the typically resilient and unwavering West Brom defense, resulting in an unexpected 3-2 victory for the home team.
At the final whistle, Corberan would have been furious with his team, which would have resulted in a number of changes being made for tonight’s crucial matchup with Michael Carrick’s Boro, who are coming off a 2-0 success against Stoke City.

Furlong, like Palmer, hasn’t changed drastically as a player over night and is probably going to be kept on the team after helping them win their most recent game at the Hawthorns, a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle.
CB – Kyle Bartley
Since Kyle Bartley has been a constant in the second tier under Corberan this season, he is also expected to stay in the starting lineup for tonight’s encounter on home turf.
That’s understandable given that Bartley stood out even in the 3-2 loss, winning eight duels and recording five clearances.
CB – Semi Ajayi
Due to the departure of Cedric Kipre and the fact that the former Richmond United player has performed well with his seasoned colleague, Semi Ajayi has been Bartley’s primary partner in the center-back positions this season.
In an effort to slow down the opposition’s attackers, the Nigerian defender is comfortable playing out of the back, averaging 48 accurate passes per Championship match this season and winning 3.9 total duels.
A nuisance for the Owls defense to contain, John Swift was involved in the most of the Baggies’ offensive moves on the day. He is a former Reading player.
At Hillsborough, the 29-year-old offensive midfielder—who had the option to leave the West Midlands team this summer in favor of their opponents this Wednesday—accumulated an absurd 105 touches of the ball and recorded four crucial passes in an attempt to break free of a resolute Wednesday back four.
Corberan, who has won eight duels as well, will be hoping that Swift plays a key role in helping his club overcome a challenging Boro squad today in order to bounce back.
LM – Mikey Johnston
As a result of Karlan Grant’s poor performance, Mikey Johnston may make his first start against the promotion-chasing team as the third and final alteration to the Wednesday’s struggling starting lineup.
Although Johnston’s manager even called him “special” during his incredible seven goals last season while on loan at Corberan’s team, the former Huddersfield Town attacker is currently keeping him out of the starting lineup. Johnston will be eager to replicate those feats.
Grant had just 19 touches of the ball during a quiet workday for the 27-year-old, which suggests a change may be needed based on his performance against the Owls.
ST – Josh Maja
With a fox in the box type of finish for his team’s first goal of the match, Maja continued to be a poacher for his side while Grant faded in and out of the exciting match at Hillsborough.
The former Fulham attacker, who has an absurd seven league goals under his belt following the second-half score, looks to have the midas touch right now in front of goal as Boro waits to become his next possible victim.
