One Sunderland loanee is doing well right now in his first stint away from the team on loan.
While the loss to Watford was undoubtedly an anomaly—Dan Neil gave away a soft penalty that ultimately determined the match, and Josh Bellingham appeared to be moving slowly—the midfield has generally been outstanding.
The remarkable growth in the team has been typified by 17-year-old midfielder Chris Rigg, who has already proven to be a vital member of Sunderland despite his youth.
It’s evident that Krishjaan Speakman’s long-term strategy of focusing on the development of young players is beginning to pay off. Additionally, a new midfield player is being developed who could have a big impact on Regis Le Bris’ team as early as next season, given his stellar start to the 2024–25 season while on loan.
Nectar Triantis, a Sunderland loanee, makes an impression in a different role for the Hibernian
Nectar Triantis, a young defender from Australia, was loaned out by Sunderland as Le Bris opted to reduce the size of his squad and the 21-year-old didn’t quite make it.
But, he has prospered thus far in the Scottish Premiership with Hibernian, playing center midfield, a position he is not used to.
When playing for the Sunderland U21s, the now-midfielder for the Scottish team was always used at center-back. But, switching positions seems to have helped the young player, who has started three straight games, scored four points for his team, and been called “intelligent” by The Scotsman.
With a 76% passing accuracy on Sofascore, Triantis has improved his playmaking, but his defensive prowess remains as he has only managed one clean sheet, recovered 5.7 balls on average each game, and made 3.3 tackles every contest.
