‘They could struggle’ – Sunderland vs Derby County prediction: The72

The72’s writers make their prediction for Tuesday’s Championship match between Derby County and Sunderland.

The Sunderland Championship game against Derby County is scheduled for Tuesday night at the Stadium of Light.

After winning five of their first seven games, Sunderland is now ranked second in the table, just behind West Brom. They trail the Baggies by one point with 15 points on the board thus far.

The Black Cats enter their next match fresh off a weekend away from home setback to Watford (2-1).Wilson Isidor, a summer acquisition, scored for them at Vicarage Road against the Hornets.

They turned to Regis Le Bris as their new manager over the summer and the Frenchman has made a positive impression in England so far. Prior to his switch to the Stadium of Light, he was the boss at FC Lorient.

Derby County, meanwhile, travels to the North East after losing to Norwich City 3-2 in their previous game. In their match against the Canaries, they were unable to equalize.

After placing second in League One earlier this year, Paul Warne’s team was promoted. Together with play-off winners Oxford United and champion Portsmouth, they were promoted from the third division.

Here are some of our writers’ predictions for the match…

Harry Mail

Sunderland has started the season strong at home. They are undefeated at the Stadium of Light this season and have defeated Middlesbrough, Burnley, and Sheffield Wednesday at home.

The Black Cats will be driven to get back to winning ways following their setback at Watford.

Derby County’s away record suggests that they would have trouble against Le Bris’ team. This season, they have only scored points at home against Watford, Sheffield United, and Blackburn Rovers. They have also lost all of their away games.

“Thus, the trends right now indicate that this one should be a home victory.”

James Ray

Derby County’s performance at home will be crucial this season because they appear to be faltering away from home. You worry that the guests won’t be satisfied once more when they head to the breathtaking Sunderland.

Though a few losses have given fans at the Stadium of Light a slight reality check, overall, the atmosphere remains upbeat. They would have been disappointed by their defeat to Watford over the weekend, but their home record is still perfect, and I see that staying that way.

“If the hosts get off pace, the Rams do have some players who can cause some danger, but I’ll be rooting for Sunderland to get back on track.”
