David Silva spent a decade at Manchester City before moving for Real Sociedad in 2020.The Spaniard terminated his playing career after three years with the La Liga club.

The 38-year-old graduated from Valencia’s academy and played consistently for the first team. This persuaded Manchester City to gamble on him in 2010.

La Real will face Los Ches in the league later today. The Saturday issue of AS has a lengthy chat with the Manchester City fan favorite ahead of the upcoming match.

The former offensive midfielder has discussed his whole playing career. Between 2004 and 2006, he was on loan at SD Eibar and Celta Vigo.

Silva has admitted that his move to Celta was a ‘coincidence’. Valencia planned to transfer him on loan to Getafe, but he did not pass the medical. This led him to join Celta.

AS then explicitly questioned him if his move to Manchester ‘was a coincidence’. He joined the Citizens in June 2010, while Roberto Mancini was in charge of the Etihad.

In response, the former Spain international claimed that the boss had a crucial influence in his move to Manchester City.

” [Laughter] No, no… Mancini has called me every week since December. He shown faith in me, and I was open about it. You must go where they want you. I advised Valencia to prioritize City’s offer. And I was correct. I spent ten wonderful years there. “I’m proud to have contributed to the club’s growth,” he remarked.

Silva described his choice to leave Manchester place for Real Sociedad: “I wanted to end up in Spain, in a good city for my family, and San Sebastian is ideal.”

“But what drew me in was his lovely football. We studied City’s Champions League encounter versus Real Madrid. “And I loved it.”

“I had three wonderful years, and I didn’t stay for a fourth because I got injured and decided to retire, but I would have been happy to stay for another year.”
