Lawrence Shankland tells Hearts boo boys what they’re wrong about as he admits slump has ‘taken over’ his life

Lawrence Shankland tells Hearts boo lads what they’re doing wrong as he says the slump has ‘taken over’ his life.

Shankland ultimately broke his drought for the season with a last-gasp equaliser against Ross County.

Lawrence Shankland has stated that the Tynecastle boo-boys should not underestimate the impact of their poor start on their lives. He emphasizes the importance of outcomes.

The skipper snapped his goal drought with a stunning stoppage-time equalizer against Ross County, ensuring the managerless Jambos avoided their eighth consecutive defeat. The booing continued at Tynecastle as Hearts remained at the basement of the Premiership with only two points from seven games.

Shankland has received criticism for failing to score in his first eight games this season, after previously netting 31 times as Hearts finished third. But he thinks his late goal, as well as Thursday’s Euro Conference League opening against Dinamo Minsk, will mark a turning point in a season in which he confesses he has overthought every difficulty. He explained: “It’s difficult not to. Everyone will be the same, especially given our recent outcomes. People often assume that football players are unconcerned about their jobs.

“It has authority over your life, do you understand? You spend a week worrying about it after each game when you don’t obtain a result.

“All you want is the next game to be there. That’s where we are. Hopefully, Saturday will be just the right amount of positivity to turn things around.”

Hearts go to Azerbaijan to face Minsk behind closed doors, since UEFA sanctioned Belarus for its involvement in Russia’s war with Ukraine. And Shankland believes the change of environment – and lack of fans – will be the spark that ignites their season.

“It’s good; it’s a pleasant change from the league and a different tournament to compete in. It may be a variety of games; they are pleasant, and we hope to get a few nice outcomes throughout the league stage.”
