Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town meet in League One on Tuesday night as two promotion hopefuls endure differing runs of form.

Birmingham City were clear favourites for the League One title upon dropping from the Championship and their huge summer spending has them well-placed to storm back to the second-tier at the first time of asking.

After statement deals for the likes of Jay Stansfield and Willum Thor Willumsson, the Blues have gone unbeaten in the first seven games of the campaign. Chris Davies’ side made it six straight victories on Saturday as they came from 2-0 down to beat Peterborough United 3-2 on home turf.

Goals from captain Krystian Bielik, the aforementioned Willumsson and an Oscar Wallin own-goal secured the three points for the hosts.

As for Huddersfield Town, while they have hopes of fighting it out at the right end of the table, a worrying turn in form has seen them slip down the table at an early stage.

The Terriers, now under the lead of Michael Duff, have lost four of their last five League One games including all of the last three. At the weekend, they were defeated by Ruben Selles’ Reading.

Concerns are emerging among supporters but given their decent form in the first few games of the season, they occupy 10th.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“Things have taken a worrying turn for Huddersfield Town after starting well and with Birmingham City up next, it’s hard to see things getting any better in midweek.

“The Blues showed weakness against Peterborough United as they fell 2-0 down, but they fought back to claim yet another win. It shows that while they’re capable of cruising past sides, they also have the fight and belief in them to come through adversity and still get a result.

“That might make for a bigger morale boost than another routine would have offered, so it could be a valuable experience for both Davies and his players.

“As such, I think they’ll claim yet another victory here, especially with Huddersfield struggling. I’ll go for a 2-1 home victory.”

Prediction: Birmingham City 2-1 Huddersfield Town
