‘Wonderful’: TalkSPORT pundit compares £30m Aston Villa star to David Beckham after what he did in Ipswich draw.

Unai Emery watched as his men engaged in a true battle with Ipswich, with the high winds only making things more difficult in a 2-2 draw. In the end, Aston Villa had to hang on to steal a point away at Ipswich Town in front of an energised Portman Road.

It was a disappointing afternoon for Villa as they could have gone second in the league with a win, but in the end they were perhaps fortunate to hang on for a point against newly-promoted opposition. Ipswich took the lead through Liam Delap early on before goals from Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins turned the game on its head before half-time. Ipswich would not give up, though, and equalized through Delap’s second of the match as he sprung the offside trap before tricking Diego Carlos and firing past Emi Martinez.

Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey compared to David Beckham

Rogers’ goal in the fifteenth minute was a good team effort from Watkins and Rogers, who played a one-two inside the box before Rogers found a half-yard of space and shot into the corner.

But Villa’s second goal was as traditional as they come; Watkins headed past the Ipswich goalie after Leon Bailey crossed the field from the byline.

When playing on the right wing, Bailey usually cuts in on his stronger left foot, but this time he chose to utilize his right, and it paid off as he demonstrated that he still has genuine talent on his weaker side.

Scott Minto was left very impressed by Bailey’s assist and compared the delivery to none other than David Beckham whilst on punditry duty for TalkSPORT as he said: “Wonderful ball from Leon Bailey. That’s with his right foot. That was Beckham-like. It really was.”

Bailey having a slow start to Aston Villa season

Villa paid £30 million to sign Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen in 2021 and he has really kicked on since the arrival of Emery as manager in late 2022.

Although the assist against Ipswich was his second in six league games, the Jamaican winger has had a sluggish start to the current campaign.

With the exception of his pass that resulted in Watkins’ goal on Sunday, Bailey has not scored in the current campaign and has been largely unmarked.

Despite Rogers’ success in the role of second striker, Villa needs Bailey to step up to help restore the 19 goals and assists they lost from the previous year when they sold Moussa Diaby in the summer.

Emery hopes that it happens sooner rather than later, but he will be sure that the 27-year-old can accomplish it.
